NAME: Khai Lenora Thorne
GENDER: Female. Say otherwise and your drink will soon be poisoned to give you a very long and painful death.
AGE: Young adult.
SPECIES: Fennec Fox
RANK: Head Sorceress and Chancellor of Parliament
EYE COLOR: Peridot
FUR COLOR: Caramel, dark tan, and cream
ELEMENTS: Dark Air, Dark Aether, Dark Earth
{ Picture by Rai. I love you forever, Rai. }
DESCRIPTION: Khai is diminutive in stature, but her carriage makes her seem to have much more mass than she actually does. Her position gives her the authority to have a regal, commanding air, and her power gives her the punch to back it up.
In terms of fur, Khai’s is long and slightly dark for her species. A caramel color coats her backside, which slowly fades into a tan and then to creamy white. She’s nothing spectacular, but then again, foxes value intellect over looks. Her eyes, however, are a bit of a conversation piece- they’re bright green with a hint of yellow. However, the Chancellor doesn’t seem to put much effort into her appearance- rarely is she seen with well-groomed fur or the dazzling styles of some foxes.
She does wear some clothing, though. Besides her beloved monocle, she is rarely seen without her scarf- a green and yellow piece of what appears to be satin. Closer inspection, however, reveals it to be covered in an air-tight coating that creates a smooth, membrane-like fabric.
Out of Khai’s back spring four bronze tentacles, bioferrously fused there by her brother. Her skeleton is also reinforced with bronze to take the strain of holding up the metal arms. The tentacles have multiple functions- besides being completely controlled by her brain waves, much like any other limb, they can use guns and other weapons. They also can transform into two other things- body armor made of bronze (by lowering and flattening themselves around her body), and wings. It’s for the latter function that she uses her scarf- the piece of fabric functions as a membrane when it’s time for her to fly. In flight, her wings function like a sparrow’s: periods of flapping followed by a glide.
PERSONALITY: Khai is unpredictable, to say the least. While most foxes have a tact level range of one to ten, her tact level ranges from negative ten to positive eleven: and most of the time it hovers around a negative five. She’s slightly reckless and not as experienced as most Parliament members, and while she takes an active role in governing the foxes, she’s definitely not the best politician- most of the time.
There are certain instances that she cranks up her charm, and in those times she can be one of the best orators around. No one’s sure if she can do this on command, or if it’s just a brilliant moment sort of thing. Knowing Khai, most would say that it’s the former, but with the fox mentality, it could very well be the latter.
Outside of the public view, Khai is rude to most others. She’s a firm believer in the saying, “respect is earned, not given,” except for the part about earning it. For your average fox to gain the respect of the Head Sorceress would be nothing short of a miracle. While it’s possible to impress her with a particularly well-executed spell or experiment, that doesn’t necessarily transfer over to respect.
Additionally, Khai’s rather socially unawares. Extended hours cooped up in a lab or reading spellbooks or attending Parliament sessions has left the fennec with a pathetic mockery of a social life which consists of chatting with her brother (who is currently suspended in a coma and possessing a ship) and shouting commands at her crew. Thus, she’s lost a lot of the fine-tuned social skills that she once had. Combine this with her aforementioned arrogance, and few who know her would choose to hang out with her in their spare time.
Though she refuses to admit it, a lot of the foxes who have interacted with her in the recent months are starting to get the feeling that something is subtly wrong with Khai. In fact, some believe that she’s starting to get a few screws loose- something not implausible for one of her intellect. She’s also beginning to feel like maybe her mind isn’t as, well, stable as it was before her brother’s incident.
While Khai is an oblivious jerk, she’s also a smart, funny jerk. Though it simply seems to add onto her jerk-ness, her wry sense of humor does keep some foxes coming back for more. Her intelligence is also obvious and definitely not up for discussion; she’s considered one of the brightest minds of the time.
EQUIPMENT: Khai has several high-tech gadgets in addition to her powerful magic.
~Bioferrously Fused Tentacles: Four bronze tentacles sprout from her reinforced shoulderblades. These tentacles (think Doc Octopus) can function as dexterous hands, as well as transform into wings and armor.
~Scarf: While not technically equipment, Khai does use her scarf in her bronze wings.
~the Erudite: Khai is captain and quartermaster of the ship the Erudite, the first bioferrously fused intelligent ship. It's a relatively small airskiff, with a crew of just 6 other members. {If you're interested in joining her crew, check out here. }
HISTORY: Khai was born with her twin brother Tiberus Thorne a good number of years ago. The two of them were inseparable since birth: where Khai went, Tiberus went. While they weren’t scions of House Thorne, their parents were still fairly important members, and important enough to get the twins the best education in the entirety of Enigma. Both were exceedingly intelligent, and quickly exhausted subject after subject. Eventually, a trend emerged: Tiberus was one for science, while Khai excelled in magic. The two of them were tested, and it was discovered that Tiberus had the elements of Dark Air and Dark Aether whereas Khai had the two plus Dark Earth.
Their parents soon placed them both into the College of Valliss, where Tiberus became a pioneer in the science of bioferrous fusing while his sister stunned the teachers with her power and mastery of magic. The two of them hacked into the secure files of the college and snuck into the vaults, played pranks on their fellows and mastered the arts of airskiff flying in their free time.
Normally, when a fox came of age, they would be married off. But her parents had refused to do that with Khai, and for that birthday instead her brother performed an operation on her to give her the bronze tentacles that she now has. This was her first real peek into the wonders of fame.
Not long after, however, her brother suffered from a terrible accident in the laboratory while Khai was out on an extended training trip. Devastated, Khai used every technology and pulled in all the favors that foxes owed her to try and save her brother. While his body was mangled and tattered, she managed to repair it enough to stabilize his vitals, but she couldn’t manage to pull him out of the coma.
Tiberus had been working on a top-secret attempt to create a ship powered by a bioferrously fused fox. Long had foxes speculated that eventually a being might be able to be bioferrously fused into a machine, but no one had actually attempted it before. Khai knew this, she also knew that her brother believed wholeheartedly in the motto, “The greatest honor of a fox is to become the personification of progress.” For a long while, she had been the personification of progress in the eyes of many foxes, especially young ones.
So Khai did what many had deemed impossible- taking their airskiff the Erudite, she found her brother’s plans, modified the circuitry and consoles a tremendous amount, devised a holding container, and then hooked her brother up to the ship.
Many had thought that he might freak out or go insane during the process, so they refused to go inside the ship during the final moments. Khai hadn’t wanted them in there anyway. She was a Thorne- she could handle the last steps of her own project!
At first her brother had freaked out a little. Having his consciousness dispersed through several cameras and a small mechanical winged fox can do that to a fox. But as he sensed Khai’s presence, he calmed down and let her explain what she’d done to him, and what she’d done for him.
He’d been overjoyed. Khai was worried- any reasonable fox might become a little angry at being stuffed into a ship without their permission. But she’d done it with style, saved her brother’s life and made him into the embodiment of progress, and furthering the field of science at the same time. Of course, it had some unforeseen impacts- many considered that she’d done the progress, as she’d been the one that devised such a scheme to pull this off. But in any interview, she always called her brother the one that had made progress.
One of her biggest successes was that she managed to preserve his ability to use magic through the transformation. A skilled sorcerer in life, her brother could still use his magic in his half-coma state, and much of the ship operated through him. She also didn’t need a personal com unit (though she had one anyway, at the request of the Head Chancelor.)
After successfully creating the first sentient airskiff, Parliament extended an invitation to her to take her place among them. Though she was reluctant at first, at her brother’s urging, she finally accepted and took her place as the Head Sorceress of Parliament.
